Advocate Vidas Vilkas

Advocate Vidas Vilkas began his law career at Vilnius University's Faculty of Law. A job in Transekspedicija – a company specialising in international carriage of goods – allowed him to apply the knowledge acquired during his studies directly to the day-to-day activities within the company.

In 1997 Vidas Vilkas graduated from Vilnius University's Faculty of Law. He followed this by obtaining master's degree in law and continued his law career in a private company, which incorporated several other enterprises. This broadened and deepened his experience of understanding clients' problems and providing the best solutions.

In 2000 Vidas Vilkas was registered as an advocate's assistant, and in 2002 became an advocate and worked in his own law firm.

Vidas Vilkas also lectured law at Vilnius Higher School and the subject on the conclusion and performance of contracts – to the employees of the joint-stock company Ekranas. He had also published in Justitia an article regarding the annulment of administrative penalties in Lithuanian administrative courts. He acted as a consultant on a variety of legal matters for the daily business newspaper Verslo žinios.

He also has extensive experience of representing clients' interests in administrative, civil and criminal cases both in national courts and in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasburg. In 2005 Vidas Vilkas represented the client in the R. Jankauskas v Lithuania case in the European Court of Human Rights where it was acknowledged that the Lithuanian state had violated the rights of Mr. R. Jankauskas. Many petitions had been lodged to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania in the trial cases where clients were represented by Vidas Vilkas.

Specialises in: carriage and administrative law, preparation of agreements and other legal documents on civil, commercial, labour, tax law, and also gambling and intellectual property rights, investment procedures, adoption cases.
